In het schooljaar 2024-2025 organiseren we bijna elke maand een internationaal webinar. Deze week was het webinar over Anxiety and Stress door Dr. Teresa Boatman, psychologe uit Minnesota, gespecialiseerd in onderwijs en  emotionele ondersteuning bij begaafdheid.

“Children in today’s world are trying to integrate the experiences of the pandemic with what is “normal” from their perspective. Anxiety seems to have become the norm rather than the exception for children. This session explores the interplay between gifted characteristics and the biological and situational response sets consistent with anxiety. Parents and educators will develop a set of tools and strategies based upon research and best practices in education toward prevention and intervention to allow them to identify, understand and respond to all types of anxiety.”

In het schooljaar 2024-2025 organiseren we bijna elke maand een internationaal webinar. Deze week was het webinar over Universal Design for Learning door Dr. Claire Hughes, professor voor onderwijs aan begaafde en dubbel bijzondere leerlingen, verbonden aan Cleveland State University.  Dr. Claire Hughes heeft ons in een uur meegenomen door de concepten universal design for learning, diversiteit, gemiddelde, “belonging” en range. Hoe kijk je voorbij de zichtbare gemiddelden en leer je echt de range van je populatie kennen? Een paar uitspraken die zijn blijven hangen:

“The concept of giftedness is designed around the concept of average”

“Diversity is defined by the environment”

“We physically see the world in different ways, so open up to different perspectives”

Dit mooie webinar – hoe kun je zorgen voor een omgeving waarin “belonging” voorop staat voor álle leerlingen – is nu terug te kijken is via de website.

“Gifted learners bring a unique blend of strengths and challenges to the classroom, necessitating a shift from traditional teaching approaches to more flexible, inclusive strategies. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) offers a comprehensive framework to support this diversity by recognizing that there is no “average” learner. This presentation will delve into UDL’s core principles—providing multiple means of engagement, representation, and action/expression—to help educators meet the needs of gifted and 2E students. Through these strategies, teachers can increase rigor, cultivate engagement, and eliminate learning barriers, allowing each student to access content meaningfully and achieve their potential. Practical examples will illustrate how to enhance instruction through diverse materials, scaffolded activities, and student-centered assessment, all tailored to develop the abilities and talents of the range of students within a classroom.”

Registratie webinar ‘Different Conceptualizations of Strength-Based Methodologies and Practices for Twice-Exceptional Neurodiverse Learners: Teacher and Family Perspectives’

In het schooljaar 2024-2025 organiseert het Kenniscentrum Hoogbegaafdheid bijna elke maand een international webinar. Tijdens die webinars is Engels de voertaal. Deze webinars zijn bedoeld voor educatieve professionals en zorg- en hulpverleners die beschikken over een brede kennisbasis met betrekking tot hoogbegaafdheid, maar niet over de mogelijkheid beschikken om deel te nemen aan internationale in-person activiteiten zoals grote internationale congressen. Op 29 januari gaf Dr Michelle Ronksley-Pavia het webinar ‘Different Conceptualizations of Strength-Based Methodologies and Practices for Twice-Exceptional Neurodiverse Learners: Teacher and Family Perspectives’.

Dr Michelle Ronksley-Pavia will present one of her innovative research projects that explored the distinct ways parents, students, and educators conceptualise twice-exceptional learners’ strengths. Her findings reveal insightful contrasts—while teachers often focused on measurable academic achievements and classroom-oriented behaviours, parents and students identified broader cognitive traits, creative abilities, and intrinsic qualities. This webinar explores these different perspectives across academic, behavioural, emotional, and cognitive domains, examining how these varying viewpoints may impact educational approaches and student outcomes. Learn how understanding these different conceptualisations can potentially lead to more effective support strategies for neurodiverse twice-exceptional learners.

Over de spreker
Dr Michelle Ronksley-Pavia is a Senior Lecturer in Special Education and Inclusive Education at Griffith University, Australia, where she directs the Graduate Certificate in Special Education program. An internationally recognised researcher in gifted education and twice-exceptionality, she brings over two decades of expertise in neurodiversity and exceptional learner populations. Her research focuses on understanding complex intersectionalities in twice-exceptional and multi-exceptional learners, with particular emphasis on underserved gifted populations and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). As an Australian Delegate to the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children (WCGTC), she contributed to the development of Global Principles for Professional Learning in Gifted Education. Dr Ronksley-Pavia’s scholarly work spans empirical research, theoretical development, and practical applications in supporting diverse exceptional learners, reflected in her extensive publication record in international journals and books.

Registratie webinar Peergrouponderwijs

Op 20 januari 2025 organiseerde het Kenniscentrum Hoogbegaafdheid het webinar over Peergrouponderwijs. De spreker is Eleonoor van Gerven, programmamanager van het Kenniscentrum Hoogbegaafdheid. In het panel zitten Rieke Huijgen (specialist begaafdheid en dubbel bijzondere leerlingen bij relevantebegeleiding.nl), Hannie Dierx (leraar, specialist hoogbegaafdheid bij RBOB de Kempen) en Cindy Floors (specialist begaafdheid Admiraal de Ruyterschool).

Peergrouponderwijs biedt mogelijkheden om het onderwijs aan leerlingen met kenmerken van begaafdheid passender te maken. Dat kan zowel in kleine clustergroepjes binnen de reguliere groep als in een constructie waarin leerlingen voor een deel van de tijd deelnemen aan activiteiten buiten de reguliere groep. Er is ook sprake van peergrouponderwijs als leerlingen deelnemen aan voltijdsbegaafdheidsonderwijs. Ook dat kan voor sommige leerlingen een oplossing zijn. In dit webinar gaan we in op een aantal mogelijke perspectieven en kaders om peergrouponderwijs op te zetten en verkennen we hoe de visie op begaafdheid mede van invloed kan zijn op de opzet, organisatie en selectie van leerlingen die aan peergrouponderwijs deelnemen.

International webinar: Fostering Creativity in the Classroom: Teaching Creatively and Teaching for Creativity

Creativity has been considered an essential 21st century learning skill. To become adept at developing new knowledge and finding effective solutions to problems, students need to learn to ask questions, think divergently, deal with contradictory ideas, and have an open mindset. Therefore, how can schools prepare students to appreciate different perspectives and interact respectfully with peers? The purpose of this webinar is (a) to discuss how teachers can identify creativity in the classroom and the circumstances that encourage it, (b) to examine strategies and practices that effectively foster students’ creativity, and (c) to reflect on learners’ thinking and behaviors that could be associated with creativity.

Over de spreker

Denise S. Fleith, PhD, is a professor in the Institute of Psychology at University of Brasilia; a researcher at the National Council for the Development of Science and Technology in Brazil; a member of the scientific and educational board of the Brazilian Network of Science for Education; and a founder member of the Brazilian Council for Giftedness. She was the vice-president and president of the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. Her research interests are creativity development in the educational setting, creativity measurement, socio-emotional development of the gifted, and family of gifted children. Dr. Fleith has published over 150 books, chapters and articles in the fields of talent development, creativity, and educational psychology.

Ook in het schooljaar 2024-2025 organiseert het Kenniscentrum Hoogbegaafdheid elke maand een webinar. Op 17 oktober 2024 gaven Manon Hulsbeek & Ellis Bronkhorst een webinar over Differentiatie in de regulier groep.

Registratie webinar Dubbel bijzondere leerlingen

Op 17 september 2024 organiseerde het Kenniscentrum Hoogbegaafdheid een webinar over dubbel bijzondere leerlingen.

Bij sommige leerlingen met kenmerken van (hoog)begaafdheid gaat het leren of ontwikkelen, ‘ondanks’ hun uitzonderlijk hoge cognitieve capaciteiten, niet altijd vanzelf. Daar kunnen allerlei redenen voor zijn (zie bijvoorbeeld de brochure over Onderpresteren). Soms is er echter meer aan de hand. Er kan namelijk naast de hoge cognitieve capaciteit sprake zijn van kenmerken van een leer-, ontwikkelings- en/of gedragsprobleem. In de Nederlandstalige literatuur worden leerlingen bij wie er sprake is van deze combinatie van hoge cognitieve capaciteiten en bijkomende problemen vaak ‘dubbel bijzonder’ genoemd. In de Engelstalige wetenschappelijke literatuur wordt hiervoor de term ‘twice-exceptional’ gebruikt.

De groep leerlingen die dubbel bijzonder genoemd worden is zeer divers. Er bestaat dus niet zoiets als ‘De’ dubbel bijzondere leerling en bij gevolg bestaat er ook niet zoiets als ‘De’ beste interventie. In dit webinar gaat Mariëlle Wittelings in op de theorie over dubbel bijzondere leerlingen. In het tweede deel van het webinar gaat een panel van drie educatieve professionals met elkaar in gesprek over de praktijk van het onderwijs aan dubbel bijzondere leerlingen.

Mariëlle Wittelings is promovendus binnen het Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) van de Radboud Universiteit. In haar onderzoek, begeleid door Prof. dr. Lianne Hoogeveen en Prof. dr. Evelyn Kroesbergen, richt zij zich op de identificatie en (speciale) onderwijsbehoeften van getalenteerde en dubbel bijzondere leerlingen. Marielle is met name geïnteresseerd in het herkennen van individuele verschillen binnen en tussen leerlingen en benaderingen die uitgaan van individuele sterktes en behoefte.

In het schooljaar 2023-2024 organiseert het Kenniscentrum Hoogbegaafdheid een reeks webinars. De webinars hebben betrekking op de thema’s van de brochures die het Kenniscentrum uitbrengt. De webinars zijn, net als de brochures, bedoeld voor een breed publiek dat kennis wil maken met een specifieke thema.

Op 16 april 2024 vond het webinar Alle kansen om te leren! Kansengelijkheid en onderwijs aan leerlingen met kenmerken van begaafdheid plaats.

Gastspreker was Lineke van Tricht (Bureau Talent). Zij verzorgde de hoofdlezing. Panelleden waren Mirjam Mels (Directeur Beatrixschool Pendrecht), Erwin Dekker (Directeur Agnietenschool) en Han Elbers (Voorzitter college van bestuur VO Haaglanden).

Webinar Hoogbegaafde leerlingen in het VO

In het schooljaar 2023-2024 organiseert het Kenniscentrum Hoogbegaafdheid een reeks webinars. De webinars hebben betrekking op de thema’s van de brochures die het Kenniscentrum uitbrengt. De webinars zijn, net als de brochures, bedoeld voor een breed publiek dat kennis wil maken met een specifieke thema.

Op 16 mei 2024 verzorgde het Kenniscentrum Hoogbegaafdheid het webinar Hoogbegaafde leerlingen in het voortgezet onderwijs. Chelsea O’Brien en Bart Smoors (SG Huizermaat) verzorgden samen de hoofdlezing. Zij zoomden in op twee aspecten die beiden van groot belang zijn: identiteitsontwikkeling en cognitieve ontwikkeling. In de tweede helft van het webinar was er een panelgesprek waarin drie (ervarings)deskundigen elk vanuit hun eigen ervaring en perspectief in gingen op het thema.
